About Me
Growing up in Jamaica, I was raised by a community, which gave me a place in the homes of many people. Being in many different homes, the kitchen was always a familiar place. It was where we always gathered to cook, eat, and enjoy each other’s company, no matter what home I was in at the time.
I enjoyed watching my relatives cook and bake. Seeing how they added a little of this and a little of that to make a great meal was very exciting for me. I always looked forward to the next meal, even when I wasn’t even finished eating that one! I was a born foodie.
I loved food so much that my slim build as a child turned into a larger build all throughout grade school and high school. I was constantly teased about my weight, so much so that I went to extremes to try to lose it.
While attending college, I knew I wanted to help people feel good about eating and enjoying food. Personally, I wanted to feel that way too. So, I got my BSc in Dietetics and Nutrition. I was finally feeling empowered to take control of my own health and wellness. And, when I did – it was like a switch flipped for me. I learned that I could cook and bake amazing and delicious low calorie, nutrient dense foods that I enjoy.
This became my cooking philosophy, and I want to share my knowledge with as many people as possible. Currently I live in New York City, where I am the executive chef at a Latin Fusion restaurant. When I’m not cooking, I am training clients as a fitness trainer and nutritionist.
At Chris’s Kitchen 101, my love of food, teaching, and nutrition all come together. My goal is to help you get into the kitchen. I am going to teach you how to make low calorie, nutrient dense, delicious food that you will love.
